Munro Unit was a renovation-extension project for McCallum Disability Services existing centre in Learmonth Street, Ballarat. The project included partial demolition of the existing building used for McCallum Disability Services high supports needs clients. The renovation-extension was designed to incorporate dual access/egress for both staff and clients. The design features north facing glazed highlight windows, complete with remote operated electronic window openers for enhanced cross-flow ventilation. Internal walls were lined with pine plywood for durability, aesthetics and sustainable purposes. The external walls were clad with ship-lapped spotted gum to withstand ground movements and feature low embodied energy. ARC Design + Build’s services included full design and documentation and contract administration. Construction was by MKM Contructions Pty Ltd.
